Hi, I’m Mike. I’m a 55 year old Personal Trainer and Fat Loss Adviser and I’m an ex-morbidly obese person. Up to the age of about 40, I was reasonably fit, but my job in a bank began to erode my exercise time and the drinking culture took over. I gave up smoking in my mid 40’s and by the time I was 50, I was over 21 stone.
When I changed jobs, my new job required a fair bit more physical exertion. I was horrified as to just how unfit I was. I started to cycle the 10 miles to work, but because I knew nothing about nutrition, it didn’t have much of an effect on me.
In 2017, I actually cycled over 6000 miles, but whilst my legs had plenty of muscle, I hadn’t shifted a great deal of fat. A cycling accident late in 2017 robbed me of the only exercise I did and depression set in over Christmas.
A chance visit to my GP indicated hypertension and I was strongly advised to lose weight.
I took the plunge and hired a PT who got me lifting weights and on a strict, highly nutritious, but NOT calorie restricted diet. It took a year of hard work to get down to 85 kilos, and almost another year, to put on some muscle to get up to 90 kilos, which is just about where I am now. I was very moved by the experience and decided to qualify myself as a PT, which I did in 2019.
My studies on endocrinology clearly shows, that obese people who think they are useless and have no will power, are not. It is impossible to win a battle against your hormones, but correct nutrition and exercise can achieve hormonal balance and sustained fat loss.
It is now my desire to help others along the journey that I travelled.
